The Town of Wellington is ready to write
the next chapter in its 120-year history.
With the largest infrastructure projects in Town history now complete, residents are looking toward
an era of opportunity in Wellington, one that includes an increase in economic prosperity as well as
advancements in essential services and quality-of-life amenities.
The successful completion of major expansion projects at the
Town’s Water Treatment Plant and Water Reclamation Facility in
2024 were major milestones that doubled the Town’s capacity to
treat water. Along with providing the capability to handle current
and future residential water needs, the projects also provide the
water service needs for commercial and business growth in the
growing Front Range community.
In other words, the Town of Wellington is open for business.
In fact, since the completion of the water facility expansions,
the Town’s Planning Commission and Board of Trustees have
approved a number of exciting projects with potentially big
impacts to the local economy. Of particular note:
• Site Development Plan approval for the Wellington Business
Center, a phased development that will add more than
95,000 sq. ft. of space to Wellington’s commercial/business
sector. The project, breaking ground in summer 2025, has
the potential to bring more than a dozen new businesses
and accompanying jobs to Town.
• Site Development Plan approval for a 50,000+ sq. ft. building
to house Kaufman & Robinson, Inc. for a manufacturing
and research facility. Groundbreaking for the facility is
expected in fall 2025 and will also bring additional jobs to
the local economy.
• Preliminary Plat approval for Sage Farms, Filing 1 (First Phase
of a phased master-planned community). In addition to
bringing new residential development to Wellington, this
first phase of the project also includes the opportunity
for as many as 10 acres of neighborhood commercial
space as part of a development that will fit seamlessly
with Wellington’s existing infrastructure. The project’s
application has advanced to the next phase.
Economic development is just one area in which Wellington
is making strides. The Town is also working hard to plan for
infrastructure improvements while also addressing issues with
essential services and quality of life for residents.
In late 2025, the Town will embark on the Cleveland Avenue
Construction Project — a massive upgrade to the Town’s Main
Street that will reshape the look of Downtown Wellington and
provide needed safety, parking, ADA accessibility and sidewalk/
streetscape amenities while also improving downtown drainage.
The multi-million-dollar project is expected to finish in late 2026.
In addition, the Town has engaged in projects aimed at
improving vital aspects of life in Wellington. A Housing Needs
Assessment was recently completed to help the Town identify
and address gaps in the types and costs of housing available to
residents. Development of the Transportation & Mobility Master
Plan will lead to better mobility throughout Town, for residents
and visitors.
The Town is also excited to be taking steps to increase quality of
life amenities for residents through the Parks, Recreation, Open
Spaces, and Trails (PROST) Master Plan & Community Center
Feasibility Study. This study allows residents to guide the future of
parks and recreation in Wellington and will evaluate design and
funding opportunities for a future community center.
Wellington has come a long way since its early days as a
frontier town. Armed with strong infrastructure and a long list of
promising projects and initiatives, the Town looks to be writing its
most vibrant chapter yet.
